On Crankiness

Thanks to jet lag, this is exactly how I am feeling nowadays. I am so cranky, it is driving me insane. I'm fine until I suddenly crash. That's jet lag I suppose, you just have to wait till you are over it.

Being back is bittersweet. When I am here, I want to be there, when I 'm there, I want to be here. It is a vicious cycle and there really is no solution. I wasn't supposed to be back so soon, but one day I was up late at night and it occurred to me that it was time to move on. It wasn't an emotionally overbearing thought, just this gut feeling that made me realize that I was ready, and I was. So I called up my travel agent at 3am and changed my ticket. It was hard breaking the news to others, but I had to do whats best for me at the end of the day.

It is good to be back though, I didn't realize how attached to the luxury this part of the world offers until I left it all behind for a couple months. Sure, it has its down-sides, and many many of those, but when it comes to the big picture it is still a pretty one.

I have so many more shattered and fragmented thoughts, I am too tired to share though. Maybe soon!

On google

I was bored, so I went on Google.com and decided to google myself. The Internet is truly one freaky place.

A. I found that this website called spoke.com or something has a profile of me, and they have me down as currently working for the first company that ever hires me. I never even hear of this site, yet there I am.

B. I found pictures of my messy apartment back when I used to have my OWN apartment in a city far, far away. I had forgotten that I entered a messy house contest on a blog, and I never imagined they would end up on google. Honestly, I never imagined they will appear on the blog itself. I never checked back till I found the pics now. Needless to say, I lost that contest, and thank God for that. Some houses are scary messy.
The blog in question is www.andfaraway.net
The pictures in question? you have to figure that out for yourselves

What's frustrating though is that, when you are looking for something in specific on google, it can fail you. I guess some things are better left unseen and ungoogle-able.

Privacy? What privacy???

I love BBC Focus magazine + website. I always learn something new, interesting, and every once in a while, that just adds to my paranoia. Enjoy:

Once deleted, can text messages be retrieved?

D.B, Leeds
Yes they can, so if you’ve been having an affair or doing something dodgy at work, beware! Messages are laid out on the SIM card as data files. When you move messages around or delete them, the data actually stays put. All you’re doing is telling the phone to point at the files in different ways. Deleting a message from the inbox, for instance, just tells the phone not to point to it any more when it’s listing the contents of that folder. Even when you ‘permanently’ clear messages, you’re simply getting the phone to stop listing it in the deleted items folder. You can’t recover such texts on the phone itself, but there are plenty of commercially available software packages you can buy that allow your PC to read data directly from a SIM card. Some of the more advanced tools figure out the file structure on the card, thus allowing those long-hidden deleted messages to be resurrected.

Raccoons!

In Montreal, I saw raccoons for the first time in my life. It was on the view point of Mount Royal, and they look cute yet scary at night. They were going thru the day's garbage and were very close to us. It was as though they did not fear humans... maybe they really didn't.

Ferrari World finally opened up its doors to customers after making us wait for a couple of years. BBC News covers it, and I must say, it looks AWESOME! I really can't wait to go there!

Things I should remember more often

Jonathan Swift said "May you live every day of your life". Today, that saying is very relevant to me. I officially turned 26 a few minutes ago. I'm already 26 according to so many different time zones and have been receiving birthday wishes since early, early morning.

For the past 4 years I only felt certain things, mainly desperation, nostalgia, some anxiety and a whole lot of mood swings that went from one extreme to the next in a matter of seconds. Somewhere along the lines, I know I lost that innocently happy-go-lucky person I once was. With all that happened to me, how could I not? Today, as I'm sitting here having my tea and reflecting on everything, I feel different. I feel like life has much to offer and that I have not even scratched the surface yet. There is so much for me to do, and a lot further for me to go before I become the person I would like to be.

Sometimes, you feel as though th world is against you, you feel misunderstood and out of place. I don't know about you out there that is reading this, but sometimes I have out of body experiences. It is weird, like I am floating and looking down and watching myself doing something. Other times, I feel as if I am floating in a continuous dream, like all this around me is not true. It sometimes feels as though the person next to me is not real. It is weird, VERY weird.

Thanks to going through all that, and thanks to all the struggles I've had to overcome and the hurdles I've had to jump over, I've learnt to let go of so much. For instance, I a a great and wonderful emotional compartmentaliser now. It isn't that I don't feel the emotion, whatever it is. I just allow it to take over for 10-15 seconds and then... I file it away. I've learnt that crying over a loved one that has passed away will never bring them back and that it is better to celebrate the fact that they lived rather than mourn the fact that we lost them. How selfish is it of us anyway? The dead are far better off than us in any case. They are done with this race that no one comes out of alive. We run, chase, find, keep, lose and in the end, we all die taking nothing with us - no loved ones, no material possessions or anything of that sort. The only thing we can do therefore, is to ensure that we have done something worth remembering, we leave behind a legacy and a memory that will bring a smile to someone's face. That should be the objective of life.

I've learnt that no matter how sad or upset you are and how depressed you might be, the world will never stop to pick you up. It will keep going forward with or without you. Most of the time, you are left to struggle just to catch up, and sometimes you do while others you don't.

Mostly, I've learnt that life can be tough sometime, but without the downs, how will we appreciate and delight in the ups? There is so much for us to learn just by observing and trying. This year will be different. I will make sure of it. I am fed up of being that lost soul that really has no idea of where she is going in her life. That has to change. Whether grad school happens or not, it doesn't matter. What matters is that something has to change. I have 12 whole months work on that change and actually making it happen.A change is coming... pray that it will be a good one.

P.S> Happy birthday to me! =D

NEVER piss off your doctor

Chocoholics Anonymous

So, today I accompanied one of my friends to help him run some errands for an event he is organizing. The event is truly a chocoholics dream come true. It will put any person into a chocolate coma, that is a sure thing. It is basically going to be a night dedicated to chocolates. There will be chocolate fountains, chocolate shots, chocolate pudding, chocolate shakes, hot chocolate, frozen chocolate... and did I mention, CHOCOLATE?

The amount of time he is investing in this is incredible. He is willing to make all the chocolate treats from SCRATCH. Is that not amazing?

Anyway, so we went to the store to stock up on some "provisions". We ended up buying most of the store's supply of marshmallow, all of their baking white chocolate bars, their entire chocolate jelly packs, most of their cocoa powder and so much milk that I am still shocked.By so much milk, I mean we bought 25- 4 liter packs. The rest of the quantities, you really don't want to know.

Here are pictures of the shopping, I will post pictures of the event as soon as I take them.

On trying something new

Yesterday was Halloween, Happy Belated Halloween everyone!

For the first time in my life, and I am almost 26, I went trick or treating. I went with my sister and her 2 kids. In the morning, the boy was a knight in shining armor while the little girl wore a tutu. Later on at night, the boy was a Fireman and the girl was a pirate. They looked SO cute. Them and all the other kids. The people were friendly and it was fun to see how people really do get excited for Halloween and go all out on the decorations.

I did not wear a costume, I wore a mask, but then I got claustrophobic so I had to remove it. Apart from that, all has been well here. I really miss driving though and I can't wait to get my licence renewed. I don't want to drive here with my international one as the insurance is higher bla bla bla... I'm getting it renewed next week, so all will be well in the world pretty soon.
